The history of the Philosophy Faculty began in 1834, the year of the foundation of Kyiv University. Today the Philosophy Faculty of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is an academic centre of philosophy education and research in Ukraine. It provides vocational training for those who graduate as highly qualified experts with majors in such diverse academic fields as philosophy, political science, religious studies, cultural studies and public administration, focusing on giving its students a classical university education.
The principal characteristic of the Philosophy Faculty study is a combination of broad fundamental general education with specialised courses that gives graduates the opportunity of delving into, and freely working within, our contemporary information-oriented society with its rapid evolution and scientific advances. During the period of study, our students obtain a thorough knowledge of Humanities, including History, Linguistics, Art Studies, Psychology and Pedagogical Studies. There is an opportunity to research deeper into specialised areas, such as traditional and contemporary studies of logic, analytical philosophy, the theory of argumentation and rhetoric, epistemology, the history of philosophy, social philosophy and the philosophy of history, cultural studies, philosophy and methodology of science, history, psychology and the sociology of religion, philosophy of religion, theoretical and applied ethics, political management, political analysis and forecasting, etc.
Study at the Philosophy Faculty is based on the best domestic traditions of philosophy, education and science formed and developed at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Staff of the Faculty comprises more than 120 lecturers, including 35 Professors and Doctors of Scinces, 80 Associate Professors and PhDs.
The Faculty comprises 11 Departments:
History of Philosophy;
Ethics, Aesthetics and Cultural Studies;
Logic;
Religious Studies;
Ukrainian Philosophy and Culture;
Philosophy;
Philosophy of the Humanities;
Philosophy and Methodology of Science;
Political Science;
Political Studies;
Public Administration
and also a Centre of Ukrainian Studies.
The Faculty pays special attention to language studies. Undergraduates elect to study thoroughly one foreign language along with the basics of classical Latin and Greek. There is an option to take a second foreign language free of charge.
There are all favorable conditions for students to develop their research abilities, including scientific research at the Philosophy Faculty. The students of the Faculty are active participants of pan-Ukrainian and international scientific conferences, and have works published in domestic and foreign academic journals, including five that are published at the Faculty.
There are postgraduate studies, PhD studies and 5 specialized academic councils for the appraisal higher postgraduate and PhD theses.
Students from outside Kyiv have the opportunity to stay at a Hall of Residence, which is equipped with a modern library and reading hall, computer classroom and gym, students’ recreation halls and separate laundry halls with modern facilities. Each room has Internet availability.
Training of foreigners is hold in Ukrainian, Russian and English.
Classical University education in Philosophy allows graduates not to only work as lecturers in Philosophy, Logic, Rhetoric, Political Science, Religious Studies, History and Theory of Culture in Ukrainian universities, but also to demonstrate their professional skills in almost all spheres of society: research, Public Administration and Local Self-government, mass media, etc.

Study at the Philosophy Faculty is conducted on full-time and part-time educational bases and provides three educational qualifying levels - Bachelor, Specialist, and Master.
