      During the existence of the faculty there have been over 12 thousand graduates, among them 270 with a higher postgraduate degree and 70 PhDs.
      The Faculty has eight Departments:
Economic and Social Geography;
Country Studies and Tourism;
Geography of Ukraine;
Physical Geography and Geoecology;
Earth Science and Geomorphology;
Meteorology and Climatology;
Hydrology and Hydroecology;
Geodesy and Cartography.
      Students select their preferred major during the first year of study. The basis for profound professional education of all students is study of the fundamental sciences: Physical, Economic and Social Geography, Geology, Geomorphology, Meteorology, Climatology, Hydrology, Soil Science, Biogeography, the Physical Geography of Continents and Oceans, the Economic and Social Geography of Foreign Countries, Landscape Ecology, Cartography, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Geo-Information Systems and Technology,  and others.
      Geographers study a range of general scientific disciplines: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Psychology, Pedagogy, and Logic. Deep study of continents, oceans and countries is impossible without knowledge of foreign languages, and so significant great attention is paid in the Faculty of Geography to the study of foreign languages.
      There are three scientific Schools at the Faculty:
1. The School of Regional Geographical and Ecological Analysis
(scientific advisors: Professor P. Shyshchenko, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, Professor S. Bortnyk, Professor M. Grodzynsky, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, and  Professor O. Dmytruk).
2. The School of Social and Geographical Research in Ukraine
(scientific advisors: Corresponding Member of NA of Science of Ukraine, Professor J. Oliynyk, Professor O. Liubitseva, Professor A. Molochko).
3. The School of Hydroecological Research
(scientific advisors: Professor V. Khilchevsky, Professor O. Obodovsky, Professor S. Snizhko).

      Young geographers get to know nature during internships and practical field work. These are held at special bases in picturesque districts of Ukraine - Kaniv Nature Reserve, the Ros River valley at Bohuslav, and the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains at the upper reaches of Chorna Tysa. They have to traverse great distances on foot, climb steep slopes and reach summits. Geographers should be good sportsmen. Otherwise it can be difficult for freshmen to undertake geological, hydrometric, meteorological, soil science, botanical, topographic, or other special field work.
" Students  at the Faculty of Geography have to find their way from southern latitudes to the northern seas ..." These words from the Geographers’ Anthem characterize the geographical ranges of graduates of the Faculty: they explore Ukraine, participate in expeditions to the Arctic, the world’s oceans, and since 1996 have been going to the Academician Vernadsky Station in Antarctica. Graduate geographers work in educational establishments, planned research and scientific research centres, nature reserves, meteorological and hydrological stations and expeditions, hydrometeorology centres and observatories, the Cartography Service of Ukraine, Central Government and many other such organisations. The Faculty of Geography conducts a competition called "Trip around the planet" in conjunction with Ukrainian Radio.
The Faculty of Geography maintains regular contact with foreign universities: Jagiellonian (Poland), Debrecen (Hungary), and Munich (Germany) Universities, as well as Faculties of Geography of universities in the USA, Great Britain, Russia, Belarus, Slovakia and others.
      We invite those who want to be educated in modern geographic science to join us and graduate as the very best!
