TARAS SHEVCHENKO NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF KYIV
The Faculty of Cybernetics
Anatolyi Vasylovych Anisimov, Dean of the Faculty of Cybernetics, Professor, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Corresponding Member of the National Academy ofScience of Ukraine,HonoredAward-Winner in Scienceand Technology of Ukraine, Headofthe Department of Mathematical Informatics.
The Faculty of Cybernetics is one of the biggest faculties atthe Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. It is comprised of 9 departmentsand 9 research laboratories with 130 stafflecturers and researchers, of whom 39 are Professors, Doctors of Science, 64 Associate Professors and others with higher postgraduate degrees. Studying at the faculty are more than 1000 undergraduates and some 100 postgraduate students, together with PhD students studying for a doctoral degree.
The Faculty offers courses in fundamental subjects and fields of cybernetics:
à Applied Mathematics - application of modern mathematical methods and software for solving scientific and engineering problems (Departments of Computational Mathematics; Modelling of Complex Systems; OperationalResearch);
à Informatics - the development of architecture and software of advanced computer systems and complexes, data protection, artificial intelligence, databases and knowledgebases, applicationof information technology in business and economics (Departments: Mathematical Informatics; Theoretical Cybernetics; Theory and Technology of Programming);
à System analysis - the use of modern information technology and mathematical tools for the analysis of complex systems in conditions of informal description, incompleteness of information, hierarchy, etc. (Departments: Applied Statistics; Systems Analysis and Decision Theory);
à Software Engineering and System Software– construction of information and analytical software systems, primarily for computer networks, multimedia and artificial intelligence problems, WEB-technology, data protection, programming languages, and distributed systems (Information Systems Department).
The Faculty is equipped with modern computer technology for study and research.
Since 2009the Faculty has been implementing a programme of intensive study of foreign languages.
Over the time the Faculty has been in operation, there have been more than five thousand graduates, over 60 students have received a PhD and some 400 students have been awarded a higher postgraduate degree.
The cycle of fundamental and professionally-oriented courses consists of several main units:

Students’ study at the Faculty is at the highest levels of international standards and based on solidfundamental education in mathematics and informatics. This isdemonstrated by annual successful achievements of our students in international competitions of programming, and among their successes are gold and bronze medals atthe World Championship of Programming. The Championship is held under the auspices of the International Association for Computing Machinery.
The best students and postgraduates of the Faculty have the opportunity to attend leading educational and scientific institutions of the world for various educational and scientific programmes, some of them are simultaneously moving into secondary higher education abroad. The Faculty maintains close research and teaching contacts with leading Ukrainian and foreign educational and scientific institutions, including: institutions of Cybernetics, Mechanics, Mathematics, Hydromechanics of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, the Kyiv Polytechnical Institute National University of Technology of Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Lesya Ukrainka State Universityof Volyn, Lomonosov State University ofMoscow, Computing Centre and the Institute of Applied Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Science, Belarusian State University, University of Leipzig, Institute of Mathematics of the Berlin Academy of Science, Warsaw University of Technology, Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, Austria), Yale Universityand University of Pennsylvania, USA.
The Faculty of Cybernetics collaborates with leading domestic and foreign companies in the field of information technology. In particular, Samsung Electronics, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, Google, LuxSoft, EPAM System, Materialise, Informix and many others.
Graduates of the Faculty work in Ukraine and abroad, in both Government and Commercial structures, banks, research institutes, design offices, computer centres and universities.
We wish every success to all those who decide to dedicate their lives to the wonderful, exciting and socially beneficial science of CYBERNETICS !
